The last time i went to indonesian band’s concert was probably in 2006. The peterpan concert. It was during new year’s eve at the muddy stadium merdeka. (it was rainy season).
Thus having a chance to attend such a big scale concert which it prime audience target is Indonesian living in Malaysia is something that i have to say, interesting. Having to witness with bear eyes the over emotional indonesian audience complete with group fights, and all. But most interesting at all, i have to give them a clap for having such appreciation and support towards music, indonesian music especially. They are not passive at all, except during breaks where they relax while waiting for the set up. But the moment the music start, their strong support towards the band are perhaps malaysians audience should learn from.
I arrived there around 2pm. I missed samson and dewi-dewi. In short i enjoyed the concert, except the delayed due to technical hiccup during Ungu’set. Almost all bands know how to communicate with audience, esp Pasha from Ungu, They know how to inculcate strong messages through their speech. Valueble messages on friendship, spritual, and of course patriotic. It was so overwhelm hearing this vocalist maximising their minutes on stage to deliver positive messages to the audience as much as they can. Something which i rarely get from our local bands. Not saying that local bands are empty soul. Some are good. But majority are “kosong”. Usually our local bands are not that brilliant, i think. Most of them failed in public communication. The usual speech of “dah makan?”, ” do you enjoy the show” yada2 is some of usual cliches coming out from our local musicians mouth.
Anyway the highlight of the concert would be, the moment where ariel takes off his shirt and wish everyone selamat tinggal, i almost cried. But the minute i remember, the disbanded of peterpan will open a new oppurtunities for Peterpan band members to evolves in their career, i start to smile again. Who wouldnt be sad listening to “mungkin nanti” in the middle of night drizzle? Ariel taking off his shirt i think for the first the time on stage in Malaysia is a historical symbol of freedom.
Goodluck ariel, goodluck Peterpan. Selamat Berkarya.
P.s Jason Lo, was there on the field monitoring his event. Hey jason, when will be turn for RTW? hurry up already!
